People who want to shut down Ao3 are the antivaxers of fandom tbh

Ao3 & OTW: is the crowning achievement of fandom, protects all fans’ right to create content, maintains a safe and stable archive to host that content without profiteering or interference from corporate interests

Someone too young to remember the dark days of C&D letters and arbitrary deletion: but even though I have no data to support my position I just KNOW it’s harming children!!!

This isn’t really about comments, but it’s about AO3 culture, so I thought you/your followers might have thoughts on the matter: Does anyone leave their email address visible on their AO3 profile? I did so because I got AO3 before Tumblr and wanted a way for people to contact me other than just comments, but people didn’t unless I directed them there (ex. wanting a beta reader). A Tumblr friend recently deleted their profile, so I looked for their email address on their AO3, but no luck. :(

Good question. I look at people’s profiles to see if they have a tumblr, especially if I’ve made a graphic or photo manipulation inspired by their fic and I want to show them. From my (admittedly limited) experience, a lot of people don’t use their profiles. It’s a shame really.

It’s also a good place to post a blanket permission so that people know that you’re comfortable if they want to make fanart based on your fic or turn your fic into a podfic (think audiobook, if you’re not familiar). Or to tell people that you don’t give permission for that, if you’d rather.

What about the rest of you? Do you look at profiles? Do you use your own?

I love looking at people’s profiles! It’s fun when someone leaves you kudos or a comment, or when you’ve read some of their work. It seems like people are more likely to share about themselves if they’re a writer. Sometimes the profile is really blank and then I feel all wistful, because I’d like to get to know the person who sent kudos etc., even if it was just “I like dogs!” or whatever.

I think my profile has a short little thing and then my permissions. I don’t put my email, but I have links to my tumblr and other sites I’m on.

Just a PSA to use your profiles!

This is the spot pretty much all podficcers and other artists will look to for permission statements (blanket permission or conditional or blanket no or whatever) AND where we look for contact info (email, Tumblr, Twitter, Dreamwidth, personal site, etc.) if we need to contact you so please, please, please, please help out fellow fen and consider adding to your profiles!
